INSTRUCTIONS
2) Drafting the layout
Based on the ingredients laid out in the video, I began illustrating my assets. I kept some of the details similar to the ingredients above, but most of it I had to simplify and make the colours a little more vibrant so that it is easily distinguishable compared to other general assets.
I also watched the whole video and jotted down the steps that the granny have carried out. I tried to keep it as short and straightforward as possible since there will not be much space in the infographic to put a lot of text.
Then based on the method that I have jotted down, I then planned what I had to illustrate. I used back the same glass bowl that the granny had and instead of an electric whisk, I replaced it with a hand whisk in consideration for viewers who do not own an electric one.
After the feedback given, I have made some changes to the poster to make the elements more interesting and also highlight certain important steps in the method. Compared to the first draft, the method section in the final poster looks a lot more equally spaced, and the darker background in some of the steps attract attention as it pops out from the lighter background. A darker shadow has also been added to the ingredients panel and also the coffee elements at the bottom so that it stands out more.
Final Outcome
I created a new Ai file for almost every step, except for some steps that reuse the same illustrated assets. I felt like it was easier for me this way because there were lesser layers to look at and I could animate and check each layer one at a time.
I tried my best to keep the animation as simple yet effective as possible
since there were a lot of assets and steps to animate. Our expected length
of video is around 1 minute and I think it was a little rushed too seeing
how many steps there are for this recipe.
After I was done with the animation, I then imported the video into Adobe Premiere Pro and looked for copyright free background music and some sound effects that would suit my video.
I made some changes to the text on the bowls and also removed a scene
from the video that was not very necessary. I also readjusted the sound in
Adobe Premiere Pro before exporting it as my final video.

LECTURES
All lectures have been completed in Information Design: Exercises, FLIP Topics and Practical
TASKS
Week 3: Instructable Infographic Poster
We are required to choose a recipe from Pasta Grannies @ https://www.youtube.com/user/pastagrannies/videos and then study the video to come up with the instructable
poster. All of the preparation and cooking process are to be broken
down and illustrated in the poster. To come up with the art style of
the poster, we can try to capture each Grandma's personality and
unique dish identity as part of the narrative structure.
Poster size requirement: 1240 x 1750 pixels or 2048 x 2048
pixels
1) Choosing a recipe
While looking through the Pasta Grannies Youtube Channel, there were
a lot of delicious looking recipes but there was one that caught my
eye which was the classic tiramisu from Treviso. I was genuinely
curious about how the original and classic Tiramisu was made, so I
clicked into it to watch how this lovely granny made it. To my
surprise, it was a lot more simpler than I thought and something about
the way she served it felt very warm and homey. It kind of reminds me
of something a grandmother would make for their grandchildren whenever
they come home to visit.
2) Drafting the layout
Before I start illustrating my assets, I sketched out a layout of my
poster to see how I can play around with the space that I have. I also
did some planning for how many steps I wanted to keep it to and also the
space for my ingredients.

4) Working on the poster
Based on my sketch layout, I rearranged my assets accordingly and
used various shades of brown for the overall poster colour. The
reason for it being brown is because the most distinct taste in
Tiramisu is the coffee, so I wanted the poster to also remind
people of the strong fragrance of fresh brewed coffee. The rest of
the colours would be found in the illustrated assets which stands
out from the overall brown background and is given more
emphasis.

Week 5: Animated Instructable Poster
After completing the poster, I began to transfer and separate my assets
into different layers and Ai files so that it will be easier for me to
animate. This time, I think I planned a little more wisely and also renamed
the files beforehand so that it will save me more time.

Final Outcome
FEEDBACKS
Instructable Infographic Poster
Week 5
- Looks straightforward and informative, it works
- The only thing you can improve on is making the layout and
elements more "interesting"
- Certain icon sizes can be a bit bigger or put emphasis on the
important steps
- Can try to put a lighter background, maybe like a circle in the
background to spotlight the important step
Animated Instructable Poster
Week 7
- Bowls should be empty before the egg is cracked
- Caption should be below the egg white and egg yolk bowls as it is disturbing while stirring
- The layer up scene is not necessary
- Overall a good animation, well done!
REFLECTION
Before I started working on this project, I was worried that I would not be able to finish on time because there was just so much going on in the same week. I had to really plan out my time well and also choose a recipe that I know I can manage without much problems. Fortunately, as I was working on both the poster and animation, I did not have any major issues that posed as a challenge for me. Although when I was separating the layers to animate, I made a mistake by putting them all in the same file. However, it was a lesson to learn from because I genuinely wanted to know which method was easier and quicker. Turns out, I had to separate the layers into different Ai files after all, but it did not take a lot of time. Overall, it was a very long but also fun project. I think I was able to improve on my animation skills through this project and I am getting more familiar and comfortable with using After Effects now.
